Lake Okeechobee Watershed Project (LOWP)

Background

Bartram's Dors

This workshop is being sponsored by the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Working Group to engage the public in the Lake Okeechobee Watershed project (LOW). The purpose of the LOW project is: to improve the quantity and timing of water entering Lake Okeechobee and the northern estuaries; to improve regional water management operational flexibility in context of the overall Everglades ecosystem restoration; and to restore wetland habitat within the Fisheating Creek, Indian Prairie, and Taylor Creek/Nubbin Slough sub-watersheds, S-65D and S-65E basins, and Lake Okeechobee. The preliminary project area, where placement of features will be considered, covers a large portion of the Lake Okeechobee Watershed north of the lake.
